If you've ever been annoyed by the tacky pop music which is becoming an ever-present part of our shopping environment ...

NOW AT LAST - YOU CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT !

Nowadays, whenever you go to garage, shop, supermarket, or any other public place, it's becoming more and more likely you'll have to accept pop music as the background. Previously, there was most often silence, but where there was background music it was generally of the instrumental 'easy listening' type.

Now there's nothing wrong in listening to pop music if that's what you enjoy. However, this listening has now in effect been made 'compulsory' and it's being played on the blithe assumption that everyone finds it congenial.

But some of us don't !   Indeed we really dislike this sort of music - and all it stands for.

We feel that places where everybody goes, such as supermarkets and garages, should consider the views of all their customers. For those who feel the same way, this site now provides the opportunity to hand in a complaint card whenever and wherever this menace is encountered in future...

Click HERE for 2 instant complaint cards to print out ...
(cut across centre line - best printed onto yellow card)

Feel free to print out, as many as you need - for whenever:

  • you're going to the supermarket
  • you're calling in at the garage
  • you will be using motorway service areas
  • you're going to any large high street store
  • or you're going anywhere else where unwanted pop music is a pollutant !

Simply hand a card in to the nearest shop assistant. Also, if you wish, add your name and address on the back and request them to contact you. This will often oblige the company to reply - under their own policy - and make these cards even more of a nuisance !  Maybe they might then just get the message ...

This is just the start ...If you succeed in having the 'racket' removed anywhere - let me know - I'll post details of your achievement here !

Together, perhaps we can do something !

The earlier part of the 20th century was a golden age for melody in popular music. Then, in the later 1950s a new style emerged characterised by rebelliousness and rawness. Even though at the time this was an ugly sound to many, at least it was genuinely new. But whereas pop once was a challenge to the established order, it has spawned numerous offshoots, now becoming an enormous industry and representing the 'new conformity'. Today, pop music has joined the football, tv and the pub industries in possessing that ultimate marketing tool: if you don't take part - you're not 'one of the crowd', you don't belong, you're 'sad' ...

Do you hate having to be 'hip' ?  Can't care enough to be 'cool' ?  Are you tired of the thumping beat and/or strained vocal delivery typical of pop/rock music ?  Do you long for something more melodious and timeless, less constrained by the current fashion ?  Do you feel like rebelling against all the dreary 'yoof' pop/rock/celebrity/soap culture that's endlessly dished out by the media ?

Whatever your age or background, if you cherish an independent attitude and couldn't care less about being branded an eccentric or an 'old fogie' by thoughtless conformists ... Welcome !

At least the internet now allows us to find a voice .   ;-)
