Retrovisor
Metropolis 1994. 'Black and Chrome". Mint
condition. Private sale. Includes Remote Control. The 'Vee' aerial folds away if not being used. See pictures below. £895.
Retrovisors, especially like this one, only come on to the market very rarely. This is a MkIIa, which combines the better picture given by the MkII chassis with the better construction of the MkIII cabinet.
This
is an analogue 625-line colour set. A compatible UHF Modulator can
be provided (free) if required. (See final picture at the bottom of the
page).
Although this set is expected to be reliable, this is a private
sale and it is not covered by a guarantee. Please bear in mind
it is now more than 30 years old. Many spare parts and the
service information are no longer available.
PAYMENT
Decided you want
to buy? Once you have confirmed that the set is actually still available,
full payment of £895 must be made and a receipt will be emailed to you. This payment can be made by
bank transfer, cheque, or Paypal (friends and family). Relevant
details will be emailed to facilitate this. If you would like to examine the set before
payment, this is fine but then you must make full payment for the
set in cash when you collect the set or have me deliver it.
I regret I cannot accept electronic methods of payment when
I'm out 'in the field' and there have also been some recent security issues. I am a 'retired gent' and this is not a regular business.
Full
payment for the personal delivery service must be made separately in advance
- see next section.
TRANSPORT
Under
no circumstances will this set be despatched by mail or using a
commercial carrier.
The
set must be picked up from my home in Worcestershiire in person
by prior arrangement, or you have me deliver it (to mainland UK only)
at extra cost. One option might be to meet half way at a motorway service area. I can provide a no-obligation quote for this service
on request. This will be based on the cost of petrol, subsistence,
and any road charges and hotels (if relevant).

USING
THE RETROVISOR WITH TODAY'S DIGITAL SIGNAL
To watch a television transmission today on a Retrovisor, you need to take a digital signal off the internet and convert it to an analogue signal sitting on radio carriers that television used to use and that the Retrovisor can understand.
There are three stages. The basics are:
A. The internet programme source. You could use an Amazon FireStick or a Roku.
B. The digital (HMDI) to analogue (CVBS) signal converter.
C. The UHF Modulator to plug into the Retrovisor. A suitable unit is being included with this sale. There may sometimes be compatibility issues if you use a modern Chinese multi-standard unit, with the Retrovisor not reponding to the colour subcarrier.
You'd also need suitable interconnection leads. Be prepared for issues with the picture shape, since this has changed to 'widescreen' since 1994.
It might be easier to use your Retrovisor with an old Video Recorder or DVD Player. Some of these may include a Modulator on their outputs (necessary).
