HOME CINÉ
The chief attraction of home ciné is for people who enjoy
planning, filming and screening the movies they have made as well
as collectors who search out 8mm, 9.5mm and 16mm prints of commercial
films and show them at home. For television enthusiasts the ciné
scene is also a fertile source of film prints of old television
programmes and camera lenses, even if these need a bit of searching
out.
Many amateur movie makers produce extremely accomplished works
which win awards and are shown widely. There is also a strong overlap
of interests with the ciné collectors who enjoy showing film
but are not movie makers themselves. Several of the latter have
built their own home cinemas to which they invite friends and in
many cases these are quite elaborate affairs complete with seats
from closed down cinemas and the proper motorised curtains !
The movie makers themselves tend to use current or at least fairly
current equipment, although a small number enjoy using pre-war hardware,
often in the 9.5mm gauge. Then again, some people simply collecting
the equipment just for the sheer joy of it.
